Percy Wood is conveniently located near a wealth of attractions both natural and cultural. Please see below for just a snapshot of some of the famous local sights and events…

Holy Island

A trip to the Holy Island of Lindisfarne is a must when visiting Northumberland. This unique island a mile off the mainland in the North Sea is cut off twice daily by fast incoming tides! Linked by a causeway, it is vital to check safe crossing times before crossing to or from the island.

Druridge

Druridge Bay Beach & Country Park is a living landscape rich in wildlife with access to a stunning seven-mile stretch of golden sands, popular with walkers, both cyclists and families alike. The addition of the new park and renovated visitors centre means there is something for everybody

Morpeth

Fancy a bit of retail therapy? No problem! Morpeth has both stylish shopping and a rich history. With a unique combination of history, heritage and beauty, this bustling market town is the ideal place to explore what Northumberland has to offer. Combine the old with the new with a walk through Sanderson Arcade shopping centre which is just a stone’s throw from the 13th century Chantry that houses the town’s bagpipe museum and Northumbrian Arts&Crafts Gallery.

Hulne Park

From keen ramblers to people just wanting to get some fresh air, Hulne Park has a walk for you! After kitting yourself out at ‘Jobsons of Alnwick,’ heavily supported by the Duke of Northumberland, take a stroll through his grounds. Hulne Park has beginner, intermediate and expert routes through the grounds in which you’ll be overlooking Alnwick Castle, Brizlee tower, the river Aln and the stunning hunting grounds of the Percy family.

Barter Books

Set in the historic market town of Alnwick, Barter Books is one of the largest second-hand bookshops in Europe. Barter Books, in the converted old railway station, is home to over 30,000 books and is famous for hitting the headlines in 2000 when its owner discovered the original (and now iconic!) “Keep Calm and Carry on” poster.

Cragside

Cragside is a Victorian country house surrounded by an extensive rock garden and 1,700 acres of grounds composed of coniferous trees, miles of beautiful walks & lakes and is also home to some of the last remaining red squirrel colonies in England. Set near the village of Rothbury, Cragside House also boasts being the first house in the world to be lit using hydroelectric power, an engineering masterpiece still in place today.

Bamburgh Castle

With lots to explore and many mysteries to uncover, Bamburgh Castle is the perfect day out for all the family. Here you can discover stories of mystery, intrigue and betrayal… or simply enjoy the stunning views in this famed Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
